We at Inova Health System understand that a cancer diagnosis creates feelings of fear and anxiety. You can trust that our caring, expert professionals will help you and your family navigate every phase of your cancer treatment. Together our six hospitals offer one of the largest, most complete cancer programs in the Northern Virginia and Washington DC metro area. We serve more than 5,000 patients each year.
Every Inova hospital-based cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The cancer centers at Inova Alexandria, Inova Fairfax and Inova Loudoun hospitals have been honored with outstanding achievement awards for care excellence from the Commission on Cancer, given to only 19 percent of hospitals nationwide. And many of our cancer specialists are "Top Doctors," as named by Washingtonian Magazine.
Inova's well-known Life With Cancer® program offers a wide range of free, practical and informative classes, support groups and other support strategies to help patients and their families cope with cancer day to day. We also look toward the future, and partner with top medical universities and pharmaceutical companies to launch the latest in cancer innovation and research. Together we remain dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and, ultimately, the prevention of cancer.
Treatment options
Inova Cancer Services offers the latest and most advanced forms of the three major cancer treatment options:
- Medical oncology (such as chemotherapy and hormone therapy)
- Radiation oncology (such as TomoTherapy™, Trilogy™, RapidArc™, IMRT, IGRT and radioactive seed implants)
- Surgical treatments (such as da Vinci® prostatectomy, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, cryotherapy to freeze and kill cancer cells, and sentinel-node surgery for breast cancer patients that helps limit the number of lymph nodes removed)
Some treatment options are better suited to certain kinds and stages of cancer. You and your doctor will decide which treatment, or combination of treatments, is best for you.
