About Dr. Mohsen Ziai

Dr. Ziai

Mohsen Ziai, an Iranian native who represented the eighth generation of his family to pursue a medical career and who played a crucial role in the growth of what is now Inova Children’s Hospital in Fairfax County, passed away March 27, 2013 at his home in Great Falls, Virginia.

In 1982, Dr. Mohsen Ziai became the Chairman of Pediatrics at Inova Fairfax Hospital, inspiring the physician community with his vision of a children’s hospital in Northern Virginia. His 17 years as Chairman of Pediatrics produced rapid growth including establishment of the only PICU in Northern Virginia, the opening of the Women’s and Children’s Building, the inception of the Inova Pediatric Center, the initiation of the pediatric cardiac surgery program and establishment of a pediatric residency program. The establishment in his honor of this continuing medical education conference is a natural extension of Dr. Ziai’s approach to the promotion of child health through service to the community.
