About Robert E. Shapiro, MD

Dr. Robert Shapiro is a specialty care physician board certified in cardiology, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography at Inova Health System. He joined Inova with 12 years of experience as a clinical cardiologist in Pennsylvania, where he also served as the medical director of a large echocardiography laboratory. His special interests include imaging of the heart. His clinical interests include management of valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and arrhythmias.

Dr. Shapiro became interested in cardiology as an undergraduate student at Pennsylvania State University, where he received an Honors Degree in Biology. He specifically enjoyed studying and understanding the physiology of the heart. As a cardiologist, he enjoys working with his patients to help them improve their cardiovascular health. Dr. Shapiro’s long term goals in cardiology include giving outstanding care to his patients, and performing high quality cardiac imaging to help his patients.

Dr. Shapiro lives in the Washington D.C. area with his wife and two sons. In his free time, he enjoys sports, biking, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
