Dr. William McGuire is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He joins Inova Medical Group with over 42 years of clinical experience. He has a special interest in management of female pelvic cancers including ovary, uterus and cervix.
Before joining Inova, Dr. McGuire served in academic roles at University of Illinois, Johns Hopkins and Emory. Most recently, he served as the Director of the Weinberg Cancer Institute at Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore.
Dr. McGuire became interested in gynecologic oncology while training at the National Institutes of Health where he saw many patients with ovarian cancer. He later became involved in many studies sponsored by the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), initially as their NCI liaison. Later, he was instrumental in the development of taxol-based therapy for the treatment of ovarian cancer and the development of the GOG experimental drug program. His goal is to help patients with female pelvic cancer and find appropriate treatments, particularly for those who are no longer responding to standard treatments.
A native of Tennessee, Dr. McGuire currently resides in Annandale and spends weekends in Richmond with his wife, a Professor of Nursing at VCU. In his spare time he likes to cook, travel, and visit New York City to listen to opera.
