Positive Reflections Centersm Volunteer:
Located at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Positive Reflections Centersm is a specialty shop for cancer patients, family members and friends. The shop carries, head wraps, wigs and hairpieces, wig care products, post-surgical garments, robes, cancer-awareness jewelry, gift items, journals, stationery, books, music, skin care products, and more. Volunteers are needed to staff the shop. Good customer services skills and a willingness to learn how to operate a cash register is necessary.
The store is currently open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 2pm, but we would like to be open 9:30am to 8pm daily and weekends from 10am to 4pm. We are in need of volunteers to cover any and all shifts; a minimum of 4 hours per shift is preferable, but we can accommodate 3 hours for an evening shift of 5pm to 8pm.
Administrative
- Data Entry: Assist in the updating of our professional mailing list and community resource lists
- Organize/Archive computer files of digital photographs for easy access by staff.
Visiting Volunteer
Specially trained visiting volunteers provide friendly companionship, information and support to cancer patients at Inova Fairfax Hospital to ease feelings of isolation and boredom.
Class Assistant
Work with Life with Cancer staff to prepare for, conduct, and clean up after class. Duties include: making confirmation phone calls/emails, maintaining class roster, creating name tags, greeting participants, setting up and tearing down meeting room, making copies, and other activities as requested. Class Assistants are currently needed for the following:

Inova Loudoun Hospital
Artists: Volunteer at the bedside, one-on-one, to guide hospitalized patients through artistic or craft activities to provide diversion, insight, and/or a feeling of well-being.
Musicians: Volunteer to play relaxing/ uplifting/ inspiring music on the oncology unit for a couple of hours on a weekly basis. Guitarists are especially encouraged to volunteer.
Hair Stylists: Work one-on-one with hospitalized patients to trim or style hair or to provide simple manicures (no nail clipping or cuticle trimming). Ability to be available on a relatively short notice is helpful
Cosmetologists: Licensed Cosmetologist are needed to train to become a Look Good…Feel Better class facilitator.
Reiki Practitioner: Provide individual Reiki treatments at the Life with Cancer Family Center in Fairfax, Virginia
