Nursing Continuing Education

The Inova Institute for Nursing Excellence and the Edelman Nursing Career Development Center has philanthropic funds for continuing education and re-certification. The Nursing Stewardship Council, a team of nursing leadership, staff nurses, finance, and foundation representatives, has developed the following programs for distribution of funds:

Annual Edelman Conference

An annual system-wide conference will be held, free of charge, to Inova nurses in conjunction with Nurses Week. Details will be announced once they are finalized. If you have ideas for a conference topic please email the Edelman Nursing Career Development Center at edelmancareercenter@inova.org.

Continuing education awards

A limited number of continuing education awards are granted each quarter for Inova nurses. This is a highly competitive process. Applicants are required to propose a program to share the knowledge obtained through the conference or course with Inova colleagues. Funds for this program will be awarded as reimbursement for your registration expenses only for the conference and seminar you are attending. The maximum amount you may be awarded is $750.

To be eligible you must meet the following requirements:

You must be a current budgeted/benefit-eligible Inova staff nurse (director level and above are not eligible for Edelman Continuing Education funding)
The conference or course must be relevant to nursing and appropriate practice area
Nurses may win only one award per two calendar years (January–December)
You must submit your proposal for sharing knowledge with the application. Implementation of your proposal to share knowledge must be completed within four months following the conference/seminar attended. Download the proposal-template.pdf
You must report outcomes related to the implementation of your proposal within six months following the conference/seminar attended

Applications are due two months prior to the date of the conference you would like to attend. Example: A May 15 conference would require an application submitted no later than March 15. The committee would meet on April 15 and an award decision would be sent out by April 30. Early submission of applications will be notified on a rolling basis (apply early!). Applications must be received by the first of the month for consideration that month. Notification of awards will be given by the last day of the month. Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Nursing Spectrum Continuing Education

All Inova nurses are eligible to receive a subscription to Nursing Spectrum's CE Direct online continuing education program.

Access your account by clicking on the link below. You will then need to choose your hospital and enter the logon ID and password provided to you by the Edelman Center. Please note that your account must have been applied for within the last year to be active.

Re-certification

A limited amount of funds are designated for the re-certification application fee for nurse specialty certifications (i.e. RNC, CCRN, etc.). To receive funding, you must provide evidence of receiving re-certification. All current budgeted/benefit eligible nurses are eligible to apply for re-certification funding. The re-certification must be relevant to nursing and the appropriate practice area.
