Inpatient Breastfeeding Specialist
This two-day course prepares registered nurses and other healthcare personnel to function as breastfeeding experts in a hospital inpatient setting. We will focus on the skills necessary to assist mothers to initiate breastfeeding and problem solving common difficulties. Course will fulfill 14 of the 18 hours recommended by World Health Organization for staff assisting breastfeeding mothers.

- How to identify difficult breasts and nipples
- Positioning, latch-on, frequency and duration of feedings
- Engorgement, using a breast pump
- Composition of breast milk, effect of medications, supplementation
- Problems, including maternal disease and jaundice of the newborn
- Cultural aspects of lactation
