About Antonio Saad, MD

Dr. Antonio Saad is the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program Director and Director of Perinatal Research Units at Inova Fairfax Medial Campus. He is a specialty care physician board certified in maternal-fetal medicine, critical care medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology. He joined Inova in 2023 and has been practicing since 2009. He is also a professor at University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Saad was a critical care and maternal-fetal medicine physician, professor, Associate Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program Director and Director of Clinical Research Division at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Dr. Saad earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut, followed by comprehensive training in critical care and maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He also obtained a master of business administration degree from the University of Houston C.T. Bauer College of Business, where he received the Dean's Award for Academic Excellence.

Dr. Saad’s research has focused on pivotal issues such as critical care, cervical ripening, labor induction, amniotic fluid emboli, preeclampsia and obstetric hemorrhage. His efforts have been supported by numerous grants.

Dr. Saad's career encompasses extensive experience in both clinical practice and academia. Before his current roles, he explored various facets of medicine, from postdoctoral research in cancer and autoimmune diseases to pharmaceutical sales. His expertise in critical care is further highlighted by his involvement in managing complex obstetric cases including sepsis, hemorrhage, trauma, and cardiac and hypertensive conditions in pregnancy.

A distinguished editor of Critical Care Obstetrics and author of numerous book chapters, Dr. Saad has significantly contributed to the literature in obstetrics and gynecology. His work in developing guidelines and educational materials for both healthcare professionals and patients showcases his commitment to advancing healthcare standards.

Dr. Saad's scholarly contributions extend to peer-reviewed articles on a wide range of topics within his field. He has been recognized for excellence in mentorship and teaching through awards such as the OB-GYN Golden Apple Award and the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Award of Research Excellence.

At Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Saad continues to lead by example, blending his clinical expertise in critical care with his academic pursuits to foster a safer, more effective approach to maternal-fetal medicine.
