An ACLS Renewal Option

HeartCode ACLS Anywhere is an American Heart Association self-directed learning program for Advanced Cardiac Life Support training. The program consists of two parts: 1) CD-based portion – the cognitive component of the ACLS curriculum (a standardized approach towards cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiac care). 2) Skills Check – the skills verification process. Upon successful completion of both portions, an American Heart Association ACLS Provider Card will be issued.

Inova HealthSource offers this course as an ACLS Renewal. Course prerequisite: Proficiency required in CPR according to the 2005 guidelines (newest guidelines). One hour is allotted for the skills portion. Note: Each student needs to come fully prepared; the skills check is not designed as a teaching session. If the skill portion is not successful, you will be referred to an ACLS Renewal (1-day) or an ACLS Provider (2-day) course. You will be responsible for the cost of the program selected. Continuing education credits are offered through the ACLS Anywhere CD.

How to register (a 2-part process):

1. CD-based portion:
Each CD can be used by only one participant. The CD may be completed in portions at times convenient for the participant; however, the same computer must be used. This is not Macintosh-compatible. After successful completion of the on-line test, please print the certificate of completion for presentation at the skills check session. To purchase the CD, contact Teleservices at 703-204-3366 (Cost: $130 – CD must be picked up at Inova HealthSource and is not returnable) or contact one of the following companies to have the CD mailed:

2. Skills check:
This is offered at several Inova facilities and must be completed within four months of completing the CD portion. To Register call Inova HealthSource at 703-204-3366. Cost: $65 for the skills check-off. If this course is an Inova work requirement, please obtain a general ledger (GL) number from your PCD before registering.

The following must be presented at the skills evaluation:

The certificate of successful completion from the American Heart Association CD-based portion
A form of picture identification

Skills check dates/times 2007:
Scheduled for one hour intervals (5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m.).
