What to Expect When You're Expecting Chemo (Life with Cancer)
An educational program for anyone with a cancer diagnosis to help cultivate knowledge of chemotherapy and learn how to manage side effects. Meets in the Physician Offices, 44055 Riverside Parkway, suite 210 Leesburg, VA 20176. Registration is required: 703-698-2526 or visit www.lifewithcancer.org.
"Curious About Cancer" (Life with Cancer Children's Support Group)
Designed to address the unique concerns of children ages 5–12 who have a family member living with cancer. Meets at Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is required: 703-698-2536.
Breast Cancer Support Groups
Two support groups providing education and support to women coping with all aspects of the breast cancer experience. Both groups meet monthly at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. (Please check calendar above for this month's meeting date.) Please note: when speakers are invited, they will present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. Registration requested for first time attendees: 703-858-8857.
- 5 to 6:30 p.m.
For women newly diagnosed, making decisions about treatment or starting treatment for the first time.
- 6:30 to 8 p.m.
For women finished with treatment, who have a recurrence or who have metastatic breast cancer.
Gentle Yoga Series
A gentle and restorative yoga class intended to help anyone diagnosed with cancer. The class focuses on increasing flexibility, strength and circulation while improving concentration, promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Meets at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. All participants must complete and sign a participant information sheet and waiver form before attending the first class. "Good Grief" (Life with Cancer Children's Bereavement Support Group)
Designed to help children ages 5 to 12 cope with the loss of a family member to cancer. Meets at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is required: 703-698-2536.
Life Beyond Diagnosis (Life Coaching Workshop)
A life coaching workshop for people exploring their full life picture and creating their ‘new normal.' Meets at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is required: 703-858-8857.
Look Good — Feel Better
A program for women coping with the cosmetic side effects of chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Meets at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is required: 703-858-8857.
Man to Man (Prostate Cancer Support Group)
A support group for men coping with prostate cancer, and their families. Group meets one Tuesday a month (see calendar above) from 6 to 8 p.m., Loudoun County Senior Center, Cascades Market Place. Registration is not required.
Meditation and Guided Imagery Support Group
A support group for patients, family and friends touched by cancer. Learn about and practice the art of meditation and guided imagery. Meets Tuesday, July 26 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is not required.
Parenting Alone (Life with Cancer)
A support group for parents who have lost a spouse/partner to cancer while raising school-aged children. Meets at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is required: 703-698-2536.
Partners in Care (Life with Cancer)
A support group for any person who supports a person with cancer. Meets in the Physician Offices, 44055 Riverside Parkway, suite 210 Leesburg, VA 20176. Registration is not required.
Pet Therapy Program
Therapy dogs visit the cancer center each week, accompanied by their owners. The dogs, which are specially trained and registered through membership with Therapy Dogs International, provide comfort and "unconditional love" to patients and families who come for radiation treatment.
Qigong
Qigong uses slow graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques to help reduce cortisol, improve blood flow, increase joint mobility, mental clarity and endurance. Classes will resume in the fall. Registration is required: 703-858-8857.
Reiki
Reiki can help you rebalance and recharge your body's energy systems while you relax to soothing music. The session is on Thursday, July 28 from 6:45 to 8 p.m., Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center. Class size is limited and registration is required: 703-858-8857.
Tai Chi
During this four-week course students will learn some of the movements of the Wu-style form. The main goal of the class is to get your body moving and have some fun. Meets at Inova Loudoun Hospital, Radiation Oncology Center.
