Aortic Valve Diseases and Treatments

Heart valve repairThe aortic valve divides the left ventricle and the aorta. It opens during left ventricular contraction and then closes to prevent oxygenated blood from flowing backward.

A healthy aortic valve keeps blood moving in one direction, opening and closing with each heartbeat. A damaged or diseased valve does not allow blood to flow properly. Sometimes the valve doesn’t close completely and the heart must work harder to pump blood.
