Stroke Survivors and Caregivers 

Inova currently offers free support groups for stroke survivors and caregivers at multiple locations throughout Northern Virginia. These gatherings can be very helpful to individuals recovering from a stroke and to their caregivers. Among the numerous topics discussed:

  • Understanding stroke and how it affects you physically
  • Reducing risk for stroke
  • Adjusting to and safely performing daily activities
  • Nutrition and fitness
  • Available community services

Free. Meet the Survivor is a support group for patients recovering from stroke or brain injury that is facilitated by survivors of those same conditions. Meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. For more information, call 703-664-7190.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital also offers a mentoring program that brings together in a mentoring relationship recovered brain injury or stroke survivors and patients newly adjusting to brain injury or stroke.
