Marshall Schorin, MD

Medical Director, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

Marshall Schorin, MDAs medical director, Marshall A. Schorin, MD, oversees the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department at Inova Children's Hospital. Dr. Schorin brings a career’s worth of professional practice to his role at Inova and has served as an attending physician, author, lecturer and teacher. "It is challenging and rewarding to successfully treat a child and family,” he says.

Now a resident of Alexandria, VA, Dr. Schorin previously enjoyed a long association at Tulane University Medical Center and Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also was professor of clinical pediatrics and principal investigator with the Children’s Oncology Group.

Dr. Schorin's time in New Orleans included witnessing the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. "The scariest part was in trying to contact our scattered patients in the early days after the storm,” he said. “Many were on cancer treatment protocols that should not be changed. In the end, we managed to continue to treat all of them with little or no interruption.”

Dr. Schorin received a Bachelor of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and went on to earn his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He did much of his postdoctoral and fellowship work at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, and at Children's Hospital Medical Center and Sidney Farber Cancer Center in Boston, MA. His current affiliations with Children's Oncology Group and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston allow Dr. Schorin the opportunity to continue his clinical investigations into childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
