Inova Rehabilitation Center Prepares to Go Live with Electronic Documentation System

For the past seven months, Kelly O’Neil, M.S., CCC-SLP, has served as project manager for Inova Rehabilitation Center's launch of the MediLinks™, an electronic documentation system specifically for rehabilitation providers.

O’Neil said, “Once we are up and running, virtually every piece of paper in a hard chart can be produced electronically through MediLinks™ becoming part of each patient’s electronic medical record (EMR).” Forms requiring a patient’s signature, radiological or other images, and forms produced by outside consultants would still need to be scanned into the EMR.

The MediLinks™ IT solution addresses many of the unique components of rehabilitation care. This includes functional independence measures, coordinated care planning and compliance with federal regulations. It also identifies the appropriate burden of care during admission and enhances revenue capture.

After two years of collaboration with the vender, O’Neil and her team are in the final stages of preparation for the new system. Plans are in place to train over 200 authorized providers to access MediLinks™ from any computer within the hospital. O’Neil said, “The implementation of MediLinks™ will allow the Inova Rehabilitation Center to insure its status as a Center of Excellence for Inova Health System.”
