Occupational therapy (OT) provides training in motor skills and teaches compensatory strategies that increase your ability to be as independent as possible.
Locations
Inpatient and outpatient occupational therapy services are available at each Inova Health System hospital.
Customized treatment plans
We design our programs around:
- Activities of daily living — bathing, household chores
- Assistive device training — properly using a walker, wheelchair or other device
- Body mechanics — teaching the fundamentals of body alignment to minimize risk of injury
- Work simplification — learning to use larger muscle groups and planning activities to conserve energy
- Neuromuscular retraining — identifying muscle groups with the potential for recovery
- Sensory integration — enhancing abilities for touch, balance and body awareness
