Inpatient stroke rehab
Both Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, through
its Inova Rehabilitation Center, offer inpatient stroke programs. An interdisciplinary
team of rehabilitation specialists works with patients and their loved ones
throughout recovery to:
- Achieve a healthy lifestyle and prevent recurrence
- Develop independent living skills
- Provide training in bowel and bladder control
- Teach new methods of mobility and the use of adaptive equipment
- Learn new ways to communicate and swallow
Our specialists offer a range of therapeutic recreational activities based on your hobbies, lifestyle and abilities. We accompany you on outings to practice skills. And we help you plan for your return home. Our qualified therapists provide home assessments to identify barriers. Other discharge planning can include at-home exercise programs, education for family members on how to assist the patient, and how to select and purchase the most appropriate medical equipment such as wheelchairs or other items to aid in recovery.
Outpatient stroke care
Inova Mount Vernon, Inova Fairfax and Inova Alexandria hospitals also offer comprehensive outpatient rehab services to continue the recovery process for stroke survivors following a hospital stay. See Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Program.
