Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBO)
Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is a highly effective, safe treatment during which 100 percent oxygen is breathed in by a patient for short periods of time in a pressurized chamber.
HBO is helpful in treating any condition requiring increased oxygen flow to body tissue, including non-healing wounds for patients with diabetes or other conditions. HBO is the treatment of choice for victims of carbon monoxide poisoning or scuba divers suffering from the bends.
The therapy is available at our specialized Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Unit at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, VA. The hospital was the first in Northern Virginia to offer HBO treatment. Our unit is the only program in Northern Virginia accredited by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, and is one of 600 in the United States to carry this quality accreditation.
We are proud to serve patients in Northern Virginia, the Washington DC metro area and beyond.
