iPATH Wants to Help Teens Beat the Statistics

Childhood obesity is a growing problem in Northern Virginia and many other areas of the country. iPATH's goal is to promote healthy living and nutrition among adolescents in our communities.

In Northern Virginia:

  • More than 40 percent of adolescents spend four or more hours a day in front of a TV, computer or video game Nearly
  • 45 percent of adolescents do not get enough daily exercise
  • More than 70 percent of adolescents do not eat the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables

Overall in the United States:

  • Nearly one-third of U.S. children aged 4 to 19 eat fast food every day, resulting in about six extra pounds per year, per child
  • Overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults
