Inova Partnering Actively toward Health (iPATH)
Inova's iPATH program is a community-based childhood obesity prevention effort that takes an interactive approach to introducing youth of diverse backgrounds to nutrition and fitness.
Through various partnerships, this program provides lessons from experts in nutrition, fitness and agriculture to strengthen the message of wellness to its participants. The goal of the iPATH program is to guide students to make healthy food choices and to encourage them to engage in physical activity regularly.
Partnering toward health
Created in 2009, one of the primary goals of the iPATH program was to establish a partnership between Inova and the Northern Virginia school systems. In an effort to spread the message of health to more students throughout the region, additional partnerships have been formed with various afterschool program administrators:
- Park and Recreation sites – Arlington
- CASA (County After School Activities) – Loudoun
- The Campagna Centers – Alexandria
- Other interested parties, including Prevention and Intervention Services – Loudoun
The iPATH fitness programs are carried out by Ripped Performance, an athletic training company founded by former NFL player Cliff Russell. With the assistance of Ripped Performance coach Rance“ RW” Morton, we are able to provide age-appropriate fitness advice to the participants.
