Visiting Hours

When you visit someone at Inova Alexandria Hospital, remember all patient care areas are "quiet zones." Our goal is to provide a quiet environment that promotes patient rest and healing. To do this, we must limit the number of visitors and visiting times.

General visiting hours for the hospital are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily. Several patient care areas have restricted hours or limitations:

• Pediatrics/4 West: Parent and/or significant other may visit at any time. One parent or significant other may stay overnight with a pediatric patient; sibling visitation (under twelve years of age) may be arranged by the nurse. Overnight stay of an adult patient's significant other is at the discretion of the charge nurse.
  
  
• Family Birthing Center (Labor and Delivery): Visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Up to five visitors may stay with the mother. Husband or one support person may attend a cesarean birth. Children visiting or attending a delivery must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  
  
• Mother and Infant Unit (3 OB): Visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily with up to five visitors at any one time. Fathers may visit any time if mother is in a private room. Children under 12 years old are restricted to the siblings of the newborn and may not stay overnight.
  
  
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Parents, grandparents and siblings only may visit anytime except for thirty minutes at the nursing change of shift times (7 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m., 11 p.m.) or during daily physician rounds (from 9 to 10 a.m.). The unit is closed at these times to protect the patient and provide patient confidentiality.
  
  
• Cardiovascular ICU: Visiting hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
  
  
• Emergency Department: When the patient’s condition warrants, visitors may be granted access to the treatment area. Visits are generally limited to one person for short periods of time at the discretion of the physician/nursing staff.
