Pediatric Services
The
Department of Pediatrics cares for babies and children through the age of 18 and
offers an in-house pediatric hospitalist 24 hours a day. Our pediatric unit offers
eight private rooms decorated in colorful, child-friendly themes, many with colorful
wall murals painted by our staff and students from a local high school. Each of
our private rooms offers a color television, VCR's (we have a selection
of children's movies on the unit for loan free of charge) and a sleeper
chair that will comfortably accommodate overnight stays by a family member. In
addition, we also offer a playroom filled with toys for children of all ages.
Child-size
tables couches and chairs help our pediatrics patients feel more like they are
in a home environment.
Our Pediatric Unit features an "ouch free zone" where nurses use
a numbing cream prior to administering an injection. In addition, Inova Fair Oaks
Hospital was the first hospital in the area to offer an Open-MRI. Our Open MRI
helps alleviate claustrophobia often associated with a traditional "closed-style"
MRI and allows a parent to be in the room and to see and hold your child's
hand while he/she is having a MRI.
