Musculoskeletal Tumor Program
A multidisciplinary approach to treating bone and soft tissue tumors
From diagnosis to treatment to rehabilitation, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Program at Inova Fairfax Hospital brings together the talents of a first-class multidisciplinary team of physicians to offer patients the full spectrum of musculoskeletal tumor care.
Musculoskeletal tumors are rare, and it is important for patients to be treated by a special program dedicated to these diagnoses.
Our innovative program is led by Dr. Felasfa Wodajo, a fellowship-trained orthopedic oncologist with extensive experience in limb-sparing surgery for bone and soft tissue tumors, including shoulder and pelvis tumors. This includes expertise with endoprosthetic replacement of bones and joints.
A team of experts
Our patients benefit from the expertise of a dedicated team of physicians specializing in musculoskeletal radiology, pathology, medical and radiation oncology. The team members meet regularly to formulate a comprehensive treatment plan for each patient.
Individualized care
You’re important to us. Our patients enjoy exceptional care with a personal guide through diagnosis and treatment. The clinical coordinator is a registered nurse who coordinates patient visits and diagnostic studies, ensuring a seamless process with maximum convenience and minimum stress for our patients. With a background in oncology, the coordinator is often a key source of information and guidance for patients as they proceed with their treatment and therapy. The compassionate care of our clinical coordinator is a hallmark feature that distinguishes the Inova program. (Meet our Clinical Coordinator, Amy Siegel.)
Comprehensive services
Inova Fairfax Hospital is the largest cancer center in Virginia and the Baltimore-Washington metro area. The depth and breadth of services available ensures that patients have access to leading edge surgical and non-surgical techniques. These include expandable or “growing” endoprosthesis for children with bone tumors, clinical trials with innovative chemotherapy agents, and the newest computer-aided radiation therapy techniques. Our goal is to maximize the outcome and function of each patient through the use of advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques.
