Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Inova Loudoun Hospital offers comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitative services on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Most are available at several different locations, and include:

• Physical therapy
• Occupational therapy
• Speech pathology
• Hand therapy
• Lymphedema management
• Aquatic therapy
• Massage therapy
• Special services for pediatric patients

Dedicated to getting you back to living back to life, all of our rehabilitation therapists are registered and licensed professionals with experience treating patients of all ages and diagnoses. Each patient's program is tailored to his/her individual needs. The therapists work closely with the patient, family and physician to develop a comprehensive plan of care to reach the expected outcome of treatment.

Rehabilitation sometimes can be a tedious and discouraging process. Our therapists not only will bring you back up to speed as quickly as possible, but will cheer you toward success. Their friendly, compassionate approach contributes much to the healing process.

The ILH Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team offers many therapy options to help you with whatever you require. Here is a brief overview of some of those services:

Physical Therapy

Occupational Therapy

• Activities of daily living
• Assistive device training
• Body mechanics
• Work simplification;
• Neuromuscular retraining
• Sensory integration

Speech Language Pathology

• Cognitive rehabilitation
• Speech and language therapy
• Voice retraining
• Video fluoroscopic swallow studies
• Swallowing therapy

Hand Therapy
Under the direction of a certified hand therapist, expert treatment is available for upper extremity injuries including:

• Custom splinting
• Range of motion
• Strengthening
• Home exercise programs
• Wound and scar management

Aquatic Therapy
Our Leesburg Center has a shallow, warm, handicap accessible therapeutic pool to assist with:

• Pain relief
• Non-weight bearing exercise
• Motor function/balance training
• Rehabilitation of injuries
• Joint mobilization
• Cardiovascular exercise
• Muscle strengthening

Lymphedema Management
This program assists patients with chronic edema to self-manage their condition. Edema has many different causes, including lymph node dissection, injury, venous insufficiencies and congenital malformations. Treatment consists of:

• Manual lymphatic drainage
• Compression bandaging
• Exercise programs
• Skin care
• Compression garments/devices
• Scar management

Special Pediatric Therapy Services
Inova Loudoun Hospital also offers therapy services for children. These include:

• Sensory integration therapy
• Visual motor skill development
• Speech and language training
• Neuromuscular re-education for neurological deficits
• Fine/gross motor coordination training
• Seating and positioning

Massage Therapy
Nationally licensed massage therapist will help ease the stress of your day. Massage types include:

• Swedish relaxation
• Sports
• Infant
• Pregnancy

Massage therapy services are not covered by most health insurance plans. Most of our massage therapy patients are self-pay.
