On October 11, 2013, professionals from a mix of backgrounds and industries joined together for Inova's Intersections Sustainability Symposium, where they explored and addressed some of the biggest challenges to sustainability in healthcare.
Attendees of this event learned from each other in a collaborative environment as they considered new ideas and perspectives alongside people they might not typically interact with in their professional lives.
The event's mix of interactive formats allowed for the sharing of information on a wide range of sustainability topics, including facility design & construction, sterile processing, sustainable foods and sustainability data measurement and tracking.
- BrainPower presentations gave each speaker exactly five minutes to present about a topic of their choice, forcing them to streamline their presentations and focus only on the most important issues and takeaways.
- Innovations in Sustainability helped participants to envision the future of their industry by participating in a visioning exercise that yielded a list of priority future industry milestones and their barriers; this list will form the basis for a new workgroup that aims to achieve them. If you would like to participate in this virtual workgroup, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- An Interactive Panel allowed panelists to crowdsource solutions to their most pressing problems by asking the audience for their ideas & input
- The Idea Market served as a mechanism for participants to continue the dialogue on topics raised during the panel by targeting five big-picture questions related to purchasing, building, communication, engagement and the role of the clinician in healthcare sustainability.
