Making the Commitment to Have Surgery

If I Decide to Have Surgery, How Do I Choose Where to Go?

As you evaluate joint replacement programs, you will want to look at several factors:

  • number of cases treated
  • staff's ability to handle difficult cases and revisions
  • physician's experience
  • organization's dedication to research
  • sense of caring and compassion of the staff
  • return-to-home rate

Our patients have told us repeatedly that they chose our program because we perform so many surgical joint replacements, with such good results. At the Inova Joint Replacement Center, nearly 1,000 procedures are done annually by physicians and staff devoted exclusively to the joint replacement program. Patients also point to our international reputation, cutting-edge research and the excellence of our medical staff. You should also know that other orthopedists refer difficult revision procedures to us based on our reputation of proven results. Patients have been referred from 41 states and 23 countries to the Inova Joint Replacement Center.

The most important thing to remember is that our patients return home twice as fast as the national average. The technical expertise of our staff, pre-operative education and therapy all combine to create these positive results. Our professional staff has seen that patients recovering at home not only are happier being cared for by family in comfortable, familiar surroundings, but can do more for themselves ? sooner.

Accreditation

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Visiting the Facility

We can arrange for you to visit our center. If you decide to proceed with your surgery, you will come to the hospital for a special orientation held just for joint replacement patients. You will meet the staff who will care for you and you can ask questions. When you come back for a pre-operative visit, you will meet with the surgical liaison nurse, case manager, physical therapist and anesthesiologist.
