The Physical Medicine Department of Inova Alexandria Hospital provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to inpatients and outpatients of all ages. Our team of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists offers rehabilitation to a broad range of patients with conditions that include orthopedic and neurological impairments, hand and upper extremity injuries, skin wounds, swallowing disorders, acute and chronic pain syndromes, speech impairments, mental illness and work related injuries. We also offer physiatry services and a monthly amputee prosthetics and orthotics clinic.
Rehabilitation at Inova Alexandria Hospital uses the latest equipment and treatment techniques to promote optimal results. These include Biodex, BTE Work Simulator, Total Gym, thermal and electrical modalities, whirlpools, videofluourscopic swallowing studies, exercise equipment, myofascial release, manual and mechanical traction, neurodevelopmental treatment, custom splinting, fabrication of adaptive equipment and more. Physiatry services are available for EMG/NCV evaluations, independent medical evaluations, chronic pain management and rehabilitation consultations.
To optimize patient treatment and outcomes, our therapy staff keeps in constant contact with the referring physician. Treatment notes and evaluations are provided to physicians regularly.
