Employee Assistance Helps Workers Focus on Work

During times of economic uncertainty -- precisely when you depend on your employees for optimum productivity -- monetary concerns may distract workers from work. That's why helping employees
relieve financial distress makes good business sense. Inova Employee Assistance (IEA),
through its financial-assistance component, teaches the fundamentals of wise money management and
responsible use of credit, so workers can overcome monetary challenges, reach their
financial goals and stay focused at work.
Employees can access IEA financial assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through a toll-free phone call. Certified consumer-credit counselors, certified financial planners and financial counselors are on duty Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and by appointment on weekends. "During our extended business hours, callers are connected immediately with the appropriate financial expert," says Joe Roche, executive director of IEA. "Even in the middle of the night, we can still move forward with most routine requests."
IEA financial assistance counselors are specially trained to identify each employee's specific needs and to provide objective, targeted information. Counselors do not promote or sell specific products or services. And all consultations are held in strict confidence.
IEA financial assistance provides the following services:
- Bankruptcy-prevention education, to ensure an understanding of what happens when you file for bankruptcy, and explain other available options
- Credit-report review and, for a nominal fee, access to credit scores
- Debt-management plans to repay unsecured debt
- Housing education, to prepare for a home purchase and to help keep a home during times of financial distress
- English- and Spanish-language education materials available online and in print
- Referrals to financial professionals for in-depth counseling and planning
