Inova Loudoun Hospital has an opening for a Full-time Biomedical Engineer 2 to join the team.

An ideal candidate is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of medical equipment. Installation, integration and initial operation of the clinical & ancillary departments for medical equipment environment. Provides thorough analysis, timely resolution and follow up to problem issues, assigned tasks and requests for special project related to supporting the continued operations of patient care and business operations. Maintains Service Management Systems. Manages the technical support of hardware and software of medical equipment/information systems in order to maintain continued patient monitoring and ensures the continued workings of the electronic interfaces from various devices to the electronic medical records systems. Provides the highest levels of customer service. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the service management system database.

Job Responsibilities
 

  • Installation, integration and initial operation of the clinical & ancillary departments for medical equipment environment.
  • Provides thorough analysis, timely resolution and follow up to problem issues, assigned tasks and requests for special project related to supporting the continued operations of patient care and business operations.
  • Supports configurations, set up and installation of end user devices, software and electronic interfaces in department additions and expansions.
  • Provides analysis, technical and task specifications in coordination with project planning and implementation as assigned according to clinical engineering protocol.
  • Demonstrates excellent project management skills to ensure that new department openings, transfers and equipment installations run smoothly.
  • Reviews and analyzes new equipment purchase quotes to ensure best pricing and appropriate service levels are secured. Maintains Service Management Systems.
  • Responsible for accuracy of equipment inventory: including tagging of equipment, initial inspection, additions and deletions.
  • Documents PM and repair service events and parts used at assigned completion rates and within assigned time frames.
  • Communicates to customer and supervisors service needs not included in contract.
  • Manages the technical support of hardware and software of medical equipment/information systems in order to maintain continued patient monitoring and ensures the continued workings of the electronic interfaces from various devices to the electronic medical records systems.
  • Provides technical on-call support and resolves, escalates, or facilitates critical problems with in established clinical engineering department policies.
  • Stays current on hardware and software technology in compliance with original manufacturer guidelines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot communication and interface issues between medical devices and electronic medical records system. Monitors and troubleshoots various medical device servers to ensure their continued performance. Monitors, maintains and repairs the wired and wireless connections which transmit patient data to the electronic medical record.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of medical equipment. Provides the highest levels of customer service. Completes and oversees assigned equipment preventative maintenance service and other equipment scheduled services in accordance with the manufacturer guidelines as well as the equipment management plan set forth by clinical engineering.
  • Coordinates vendors who are contracted to complete preventative maintenance and repairs of medical equipment. Oversees vendor performance, monitors quality of work and assures that the vendor is complying with the original manufacturer guidelines, as well as equipment management plan set forth by clinical engineering. Ensures that vendor follows all applicable hospital standards and policies.
  • Assures that the hospital equipment plan and equipment management plan is followed and equipment is compliant with regulatory standards as governed by federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Trains BMET I, as directed by supervisor, on preventative maintenance and repair procedures and techniques and the use of test equipment. Uses electro-mechanical training and standard equipment knowledge to carry out PM in standardized situations utilizing written, oral or diagram instructions. Demonstrates competencies of repair techniques and tests equipment used to perform daily activities.
  • Identifies areas to management for process improvement and standardization of equipment.
  • Performs diagnostic repairs & troubleshooting using electronic mechanical training and standard equipment knowledge to carry out repairs in standardized situations utilizing written, oral or diagram instructions.
  • Maintains communication with end users from preliminary findings, status through to following up after completion of the repair and preventative maintenance.
  • Provides the highest levels of customer service.
  • Completes and oversees assigned PM and other scheduled services(such as installations, special projects, tagging of all included medical devices, dept. sweeps, incoming inspections and additions & deletions) at assigned completion rates.
  • Writes PM procedures.
  • Contacts vendors to complete contracted PM's, oversees vendor performance, and monitors completion per manufacturer specifications. Assures equipment plan is followed and equipment is compliant with regulatory standards. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the service management system database.
  • Responsible for accuracy of equipment inventory: including initial tagging of equipment, initial inspection, equipment additions, equipment deletions, assuring accurate preventative maintenance schedule is reflected, promptly performing equipment transfers between departments, ensuring serial number and all other information on the equipment is accurate and up to date.
  • Documents all service events on each medical device in the service management system database to ensure that history of preventative maintenance and repairs is accurate and in accordance with both the hospital management plan and equipment management plan set forth by clinical engineering.
  • Demonstrates the ability to run reports out of the service management system to include inventory reports, QA reports, preventative maintenance completion reports, stock on hand reports, open call reports and any other standard report from the database.
  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate parts inventory in the service management systems; to include accurate selling of parts to customer on service call, performing goods in, promptly returning parts not needed, securing exchange parts to be returned, validating the parts inventory quarterly as well as a year end physical inventory, follow proper protocol for securing parts to ensure no parts are lost.
  • Performs stock movements to transfer stock to other technicians.
  • Performs repairs of medical equipment and systems. Demonstrates competencies on PM, repair techniques, and test equipment used to perform daily activities.
  • Communicates with customers regarding equipment status, proper operation of equipment and charges. Provides training as appropriate. Identifies areas for process improvement and implements improvement recommendations.

     

Qualifications:

 Experience:

  • 2 years of direct experience

Education:

  • AA, BS or Equivalent Program completion
  • Or 7 years of directly related work experience

 

Skills and Ability:

  • Intermediate use of multi-meter, safety analyzer, ESU analyzer, pressure meter, force dial, Defibrillator analyzers and Patient simulator.
