Job Description

Demonstrates advanced knowledge of aseptic and surgical technique. Demonstrates responsible behavior as a healthcare professional. Indentifies variances from expected outcomes and responds to changes in patient needs. Serves as liaison between the Sterile Processing department and the Operating Room department to assure smooth, uninterrupted daily instrument support while role facilitates continuous communication and performance improvement as it relates to surgical instruments.

Job Responsibilities
 
  • Serves as a resource in at least 2 specialty areas/procedures.
  • Actively shares knowledge with staff regarding instrument sets/techniques and procedures.
  • Performs in preceptor role for new & experienced staff in the scrub role.
  • Provides working knowledge of powered instrumentation, video equipment, microscopes, and complex instrumentation, equipment.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to critique own practice and pursues improvement opportunities.
  • Participates in at least one unit based committee/council and/or accepts individual assignment to work on improving patient care/unit based issues.
  • Documents evidence of at least 20 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 6 formal contact hours.
  • Coordinates an inventory of instruments and assures that patient/physician needs for specialty surgical instrumentation are met.
  • Coordinates sterile processing functions that are necessary to support the OR which includes the decontamination, processing and sterilization of surgical instruments, and processing of the turnover of instruments for immediate use.
  • Performs routine job duties of the Surgical Technician in Sterile Processing.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of anatomy and is able to anticipate the required instrumentation for each step of a surgical procedure.
  • Coordinates sterile processing functions that are necessary to support the OR which includes the decontamination, processing and sterilization of surgical instruments, and processing of the turnover of instruments for immediate use.
  • Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field and applies principles of a sepsis.
  • Serves as liaison between the Sterile Processing department and the Operating Room department to assure smooth, uninterrupted daily instrument support while role facilitates continuous communication and performance improvement as it relates to surgical instruments. Demonstrates collaboration with other team members in planning/giving patient care.



Additional Requirements

High School or GED


Graduate of accredited surgical tech program 


2 years of Hospital experience and/or previous practice experience as a Surgical Technologist (experience must be within the last 5 years).
