Job Description

Our Mount Vernon Hospital Therapy Department is seeking a PRN Weekend Occupational Therapist to join our team. This is acute care for adults. Our renowned 67 bed inpatient hospital has highly trained clinicians utilizing the latest evidence based technologies and state of the art equipment. With specialty certified clinicians and state of the art equipment, our team is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to help individuals achieve their highest level of functioning. This includes Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord, Cancer, Cardiac and adult Neuro to name a few.  

Our Occupational Therapists selects evaluation and treatment methods appropriate for the diagnosis, age group and patient’s physical and emotional status, formulating appropriate treatment plan and performing re-evaluations.  Our ideal candidate will communicate effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors and outside contacts and adhere to department policy regarding time frame, form and content of written evaluations, progress notes and discharge summaries. This person is also responsible for the completion of all administrative tasks and other responsibilities in support of the operating unit.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assumes complete responsibility over the course of OT patient management from the time of initial contact to discharge for functional progress, safety and treatment outcome as evidenced by team feedback and documentation.  This includes addressing discharge planning needs from the initial evaluation.
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of the formulation and application of therapeutic techniques and evaluation methods throughout the course of treatment and adjusts the treatment plan regularly and appropriately as patient status changes as evidenced by the treatment plan; demonstrating creative problem solving and diversity when adapting the treatment to special circumstances to improve the functional status of the patient and address reason for referral.
  • Documents and complete any administrative responsibilities in a clear and complete manner, including all essential elements including daily progress notes that reflect patient's response to treatment, actual performance, and an assessment as to status, relevant to the treatment plan and eventual discharge needs and notes including a summary of the course of treatment, progress toward goals, recommendations for follow-up, and patient and/or family education within established time frames
  • Communicates effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors and outside contacts. Provide educational materials and methods appropriate to the patient’s level of understanding and motivation and document evidence of this patient and family/caregiver education.  Also give appropriate instruction and supervision to assistive personnel consistent with program/clinic policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in terms of productivity standard, contribute to the educational efforts of the department/clinic and assume a leadership role in committees, department processes and special projects. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in  Occupational Therapy. Masters preferred
  • While we will accept a new graduated Occupational Therapist, our ideal candidate will possess at least 1 year of experience as an Licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • BLS certified through the American Heart Association.
  • Valid Virginia Occupational Therapy License.
