Job Description

We are seeking a rehabilitation psychologist to evaluate and treat adult patients ages 18 and up. Clinical population includes those who have sustained a stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumor, spinal cord injury, amputation, polytrauma, transplant and other neurological and medical diagnoses in an acute inpatient rehabilitation setting. Applicants should have training and experience in medical and/or rehabilitation settings providing psychological services to these patient populations. Our interdisciplinary team of rehabilitation specialists work together with an emphasis on maximizing functional independence and adjustment to disability. In this regard, the applicant should have strong skills in psychotherapy, behavior management, health counseling for adjustment to disability/illness, psychosocial/neuropsychological assessment, and interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration.


Job Responsibilities
 

  • Gives information and instruction to the treatment team pertinent to the psychological, behavior/ pain management strategies for patients as evidenced by staff feedback.
  • Contact families, physicians, or other health team members in anticipation of the special needs of the patient family or family in two days to facilitate effective treatment plans as evidenced by chart review and team feedback.
  • Provides educational material and community resource information appropriate to the patient's and their family's level of understanding and motivational as evidenced by team feedback.
  • Provides a verbal report of psychological issues to groups (e.g. rounds, family meetings, therapy groups) in a manner appropriate to the level of the audience and in a manner that facilitates learning and treatment planning as evidenced by feedback.
  • Demonstrates collaboration in communication with team members and is open to feedback and receptive to change as evidenced by observation and feedback.
  • Assumes leadership role in committees, department process, and special projects following clinical expertise and individual performance plan monitored by on documentation and observation.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and knowledge of supplies, equipment, billing, and/or staff resources used in the department as evidenced by team feedback and observation.
  • Maintains productivity standards set by the department and makes efficient use of non-billable time as evidenced by observation, productivity statistics, and supervisor feedback.
  • Contributes to educational efforts of the program (e.g. in-services, students, presentations) as evidenced by program-specific documentation.
  • Completes routine individual administrative responsibilities consistently (e.g. timecards, coverage notes, charge entry, scheduled tasks) based on supervisor observation, documentation, and departmental reports.
  • Selects evaluation and treatment methods appropriate to the diagnosis, age group, and patients physical and emotional status and formulates appropriate treatment plan as evidenced by chart review and team feedback.
  • Chooses appropriate tests/tools relevant to the reason for referral as evidenced by chart review and physician feedback.
  • Formulates comprehensive treatment plans to address the psychological and behavioral issues and support the functional goals of the rehab treatment team as evidenced by chart review and team feedback.

 Requirements:

 

One year in a clinical/school medical rehab setting with emphasis on programs patient population.

Graduate of American Psychological Association Approved PHD or Pysch D. Program in clinical or school psychology or Neuropsychologist.

BLS from American Heart Association 

Virginia license for Clinical Psychologist or Neuropsychologist or license eligible the Commonwealth of Virginia
