Job Description

The Sr Tax Accountant completes complex analyses and processes including managing multiple projects simultaneously. This role understands federal and state tax requirements and ensures appropriate application of these principles throughout the tax function. The Senior Tax Accountant has an in-depth knowledge and experience in Internal Control systems and actively ensures their effectiveness throughout the organization. The Senior Tax Accountant has significant experience in, the multi-faceted operations of the Tax Department. This role is responsible for effective preparation of various types of tax filings and tax compliance for the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares, files, and manages all ancillary business filings such as property taxes, licenses, sales tax, and others.

• Monitors payroll tax filings.

• Obtains and compiles supporting documentation and other information necessary for the organization’s various tax filings.

• Gathers alternative investment information needed for Form 990T foreign filings.

• Assists in the preparation of federal and state tax filings for Forms 990, 1120 and 1065.

• Responds and resolves notices from the IRS, state, and local tax authorities.

• Coordinates third party audits related to state and local taxes.

• Researches new tax rules and laws, prepare, and participate in presenting to management, and assist with the implementation.

• Maintains Sales and Use Tax Exemptions in various states for system. Apply for Sales Tax Exemption renewals as required.

• Maximizes our tax efficiencies.

• Participates and assists in daily projects and special projects as needed by the Director and Manger of Tax.

• Must have the ability to communicate/coordinate progress on a regular basis to keep the Director and Manage of Tax apprised of the progress on all assignments and University issues.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Experience:

  • 10 years of relevant, professional experience
  • 5+ years of leading or managing a team
  • Previous experience handling multi-state corporate taxes

Certification:

CPA or CMA License required

Skills:

    • Core understanding of accounting principles
    • Previous experience at professional tax firm
    • Previous in-house experience at medium or large size growing business
    • Intensely strong knowledge of federal, state, and local taxation
    • Understand how to implement new tax laws into our strategies
    • Proven experience making and driving high level tax decisions in complex corporate structure
