Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides support for laboratory projects to include submitting/managing requests for laboratory equipment (including capital), software, computer interfaces, printers, etc. Determines feasibility, cost and usefulness for the Laboratory; Identifies the need for and initiates request for Technology Value Analysis Committee (TVAC) approval when applicable.
  • Provides basic troubleshooting for peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.). Requests or provides assistance to departmental leaders with requests for IT services or problem resolution. Provides supporting information/documentation and coordinates with IT or vendors as needed to ensure resolution and operational effectiveness of the laboratory departments.
  • Manages list of projects and issues along with their status.. Communicates status to stakeholders and escalates as needed to keep projects moving to completion. Attends Clinical Practice Team meetings for awareness of projects/issues and to assist with requests or information.
  • Performs or coordinates testing in the HIS/LIS related to software fixes, implementation of new functionality, or downtime recovery.
  • Provides or arranges for training, as needed, for existing and new employees for the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Generates reports or extracts of data as needed to support clinical decision making, or articulates the need for specific data and submits a request to IT. Is proficient in using report writing tools associated with the laboratory information system or hospital information system.
  • Supports review and maintenance of appropriate laboratory billing codes and functionality by understanding the workflow for laboratory billing. Assist with requests for system updates to ensure appropriate billing for additions or changes to the laboratory test menu.
  • Maintains evidence of compliance with regulatory requirements related to the handling of laboratory data.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Three years working as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) in a healthcare laboratory setting. Participation in LIS projects and laboratory project management activities preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related science field.

Certification:

  • MLS(ASCP) OR MT(ASCP).
