Role Overview

The Inova Health System Human Resources (HR) department is seeking a Director of Human Resources Technology & Analytics to join our dynamic HR leadership team. The Director of HR Technology and Analytics will lead the optimization of Inova’s HR technology and analytics capabilities in alignment with Inova’s People Strategy of Attract, Develop, and Thrive.

Inova Health System is based in Fairfax, Virginia. This role can be on-site, hybrid or full-time remote.


Role Summary

As a key member of the Human Resources leadership team, the Director, HR Technology & Analytics:

  • Applies strong technical, leadership and collaboration/partnering/advisory skills to effectively engage stakeholders across HR, IT, Finance (including Payroll), Central Analytics and the business to develop and implement a technology and business intelligence roadmap that supports organizational goals, aligns with Inova’s mission, and meets current and future needs of Human Resources.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between HR functional leaders and IT Business Applications to assist with system optimization, enhancement prioritization, business process or workflow optimization, implementations, security & access, and user experience.
  • Provides consultative services to customers across HR and non-HR functions for reporting solutions and analytical insights in support of Inova’s People Strategy, including proactive needs assessment, requirement definition, weighing options, testing, implementation, project management, and continuous improvement.
  • Directs the operation of HR Analytics &Technology function including team management, service delivery, resource allocation, budgeting, and vendor relationship management.
  • Leads, coaches, and develops the HR Technology & Analytics team. Casts a vision for the function, defines best practice, identifies gaps, collaboratively sets stretch development goals, and invests in formal and on-the-job development to upskill talent and maximize the function’s value to HR and the business.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners closely with IT, Business Applications teams (including Oracle ERP and Kronos), and the Central Analytics team to foster cooperative, customer-centric, solutions-focused partnership.
  • Directs the operation of HR Technology & Analytics function, including management of the team.
  • Prudently assess requirements for sharing of team member/HR data between systems/functions. Socialize or escalate questions as necessary to ensure transparency and alignment of key stakeholders. Work with a bias for solutions, offering alternatives and removing barriers whenever possible.
  • Leads, coordinates, and continuously improves service delivery to support department objectives and organizational goals.
  • Designs and builds reports, dashboards, scorecards, and databases in support of tracking key metrics, and project-based and ad-hoc information needs.
  • Recommends changes in workflow to achieve efficiency in processes, both within the team and for customers.
  • Enable and promote data-driven decision making. Promote greater awareness, and drive stronger adoption and utilization of HR analytics and technology solutions
  • Tracks requirements and develops reports/extracts/interfaces needed to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, accrediting and regulatory agency standards (e.g. EEO, Affirmative Action).
  • Develops and directs long term planning for the function, including the ecosystem of systems, tools, and talent needed now and in the future to support Inova’s mission, people strategy and organizational goals.
  • Develops and manages budget for the function.
  • Develops, leads and/or partners on regular data auditing operations concerning human resources information to ensure data integrity.
  • Recommends establishment of or updates to policies and procedures related to HR Technology & Analytics operation, maintenance, interfaces, security, team member data.
  • Contributes to the design and delivery of HR Technology & Analytics-related training programs.
  • Partners with HR leadership team to provide analytical insights in key areas of strategic focus, like turnover, engagement and vacancy.
  • Partners closely with other HR functions/COEs (e.g., Talent Acquisition) to assess needs, define alternatives, and develop and deliver solutions that improve processes and team member experience.
  • Responds promptly to requests from other functions/departments across the business, appropriately prioritizing requests and building a reputation as a critical business resource.
  • Partners with vendors and external clients when necessary to support HR processes that utilize insourced and outsourced technologies, interfaces, integrations, electronic file transfer, or other data exchange.
  • Partners with compliance, audit, finance, legal (internal and external) and related functions to ensure required quality, compliance, audit procedures are in place, and requests for data are fulfilled timely and accurately.
  • Ensures service excellence standards and provision of outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Manages HR analytics and technology projects and staff to achieve HR department goals and objectives that require systems and technology related support.
  • Provides regular coaching, mentoring and development opportunities to enable professional growth of team members.


  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in HR, Business Intelligence, Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive career experience in HR/HRIS, with a minimum of 5 years in function/team leadership roles required.
  • Oracle Cloud (HCM), Oracle Discoverer, Tableau, MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint), statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, Stata) experience required.
  • Lawson HRIS, Brass Ring and Kronos experience preferred.  
  • Experience with Payroll processes as related to HR systems.
  • Hands on experience with meeting state and federal employment law data reporting requirements.
