Job Description

The Psych Emergency Clinician Supervisor will demonstrate and maintain a therapeutic and prosocial treatment environment. Ability to provide direct/indirect clinical supervision to central access clinicians to enhance their individual clinical skills and the quality of services to patients is of vital importance. Handling team member relations and staff development for direct reports is expected. Developing goals and managing fiscal activities of the department in the overnight shift is required.Responsible for oversight of daily operations related to clinical evaluations and administrative functions, procedures and protocols. Supervises administrative operations, e.g., scheduling/registration, and direct patient care. Works collaboratively with physicians, therapists and other team members of the behavioral health team to effect timely, appropriate patient care management. Collaborates with other department leaders, providers and team members with in Inova, and external agencies to help support the care and disposition of patients.

Job Responsibilities
 
  • Supervises clinical operations and direct patient care.
  • Supervises day to day operations of mental health techs and liaisons.
  • Completes shift and monthly reports timely.
  • Provides supervision to team members on communication skills, techniques and documentation with internal and external customers.
  • Assists in the hiring, interviewing, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to administrative team with logistical issues related to scheduling, billing, and patient relations.
  • Demonstrates leadership traits and supports an environment of psychological safety and professionalism.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, supervisors and outside contacts.
  • Facilitates/Co-facilitates team meetings.
  • Participates in regular (weekly or biweekly/ Monthly) meetings with department leadership.
  • Actively seeks out guidance and support as needed from department Director and/or Medical Director.
  • Demonstrates advanced clinical expertise in the provision of crisis intervention, evaluation, safety planning and discharge planning, case management, assessment, case presentation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess and diagnose mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department specific and evidenced based assessment identifying patient and family goals and need. In the absence of the manager/Director, may provide program/department/unit clinical leadership.
  • Demonstrates clinical autonomy in the provision of care, recommendations and referrals while striving to increase professional knowledge, develop expertise and work toward certifications.
  • Practices within the Code of Ethics of the credentialing discipline.
  • Serves as a clinical leader by providing clinical supervision to team members seeking licensure as well as supervision.
