About Melanie Recel Gonzaga, PT, MSPT
A native of Virginia Beach, VA, Melanie began her career in the field of physical therapy as a physical therapy assistant in 1997. She continued with her studies to receive her Master's degree in physical therapy from Neumann College in Aston, PA, in 2002. She is currently working towards the completion of her transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program with Shenandoah University which will be completed in 2021. Her experience includes tenures in several skilled nursing facilities, assisted living/nursing home centers, home health companies and outpatient orthopedic clinics.
Melanie joined Inova Physical Therapy Center in 2013. She has devoted the past several years to studying with the Institute of Physical Art, honing her skills to prepare for certification in Functional Manual Therapy which she completed in 2017. She achieved senior physical therapist status with Inova in 2018. Melanie is currently an APTA credentialed clinical instructor, serves as a residency host for the Institute of Physical Art’s residency program, and is a member of the orthopedic and sports sections of the American Physical Therapy Association.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, working out, and relaxing with sewing, knitting, paper crafts and cooking.
