The thought of visiting an ER during this uncertain time might be a little scary. However, delaying the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a potential emergency condition can put you at greater risk.
Emergency Rooms at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (Adult and Pediatric)
We continue to offer our full scope of emergency services, including pediatric emergency services. Upon arrival, all patients and visitors are screened to determine if they exhibit symptoms associated with COVID-19 or other infectious indicators. Then:
- Individuals are provided a mask. If determined to be possibly infectious, the patient is escorted to an individual exam room for further screening.
- If the influx of patients is significant, we have established a separate screening area that can be activated by our team members. This completely separates potential COVID-19 patients from others for more rapid testing if it is determined they will not require admission.
- Sicker patients will be escorted to a bay in the ER for a more thorough examination and plan of care.
- Inova team members, at minimum, wear a mask for every patient interaction and participate in twice daily symptom and temperature checks. Patients have been pleasantly surprised by our process and indicated they feel safe in our care environment.
