We offer an array of specialized programs provided through physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy services for patients of all ages – from infancy to adult. We have an outstanding team of rehabilitation professionals who strive for the best outcomes for their patients and families and are dedicated to ongoing professional development.

Occupational Therapy (OT) Services

Inova Fairfax Outpatient Rehabilitation offers occupational therapy services for patients of all ages – from infancy to adult. Our occupational therapists are skilled in therapeutic interventions for:

  • Self-care skills and activities of daily living
  • Fine motor skills
  • Neuro re-education
  • Environmental modifications (home, work, and school) 
  • Regaining hand function after injuries or strains
  • Sensory re-education
  • Sensory integration dysfunction
  • Visual motor skills
  • Visual perceptual skills
  • LSVT BIG program for Parkinson’s disease
  • Cognitive and organizational skills required for daily living tasks
  • Lymphedema management

Physical Therapy (PT) Services

Inova Fairfax Outpatient Rehabilitation offers physical therapy services for patients of all ages – from infancy to adult. Our physical therapists are skilled in therapeutic interventions for:

  • Neuro re-education
  • Facilitation of age appropriate milestones 
  • Functional assessment
  • Concussion management
  • Gait analysis/training

Speech Therapy Services

Inova Fairfax Outpatient Rehabilitation offers speech/language pathology to improve functional communication skills. Our speech therapists are skilled in therapeutic interventions for:

  • Auditory processing
  • Articulation/phonology
  • Dysphagia
  • Cleft palate and resonance disorders
  • Expressive/receptive language
  • Voice disorders (i.e. paralysis, nodules, weakness)
  • Oral-motor function, including tongue tie
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Apraxia of speech
  • Fluency 
  • Augmentative and alternative communication systems
  • LSVT LOUD for Parkinson’s disease
  • Vocal cord dysfunction

Feeding and Swallowing Services

Inova Fairfax Outpatient Rehabilitation offers evaluation of feeding and swallowing problems for patients of all ages- from infancy to adult. Our speech-language pathologists evaluate and treat a variety of acquired and developmental feeding and swallowing disorders, including the following services and interventions: 

  • Modified barium swallow studies (also known as Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies)
  • Physical positioning for optimal performance
  • Oral and pharyngeal strengthening and maintenance programs
  • Dysphagia evaluation and treatment before, during, and after head and neck cancer treatment
  • Family and caregiver education and training

Lymphedema Management Services

Our experienced and specially trained team of Board Certified Lymphedema Therapists (occupational and physical therapists with CLT-LANA credentials) can accurately assess and provide clinical management of edematous conditions to correct and avoid irreversible and progressive damage. Lymphedema services include:

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
  • Compression therapy/garment fitting
  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Self care, hygiene, and skin care
  • Scar management
  • Patient/family education

Oncology Rehabilitation

Our experienced team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists are able to assess and treat a variety of physical impairments that are a result of cancer and/or cancer treatments, including: 

  • Axillary web syndrome or cording
  • Pre- and post-surgical breast cancer evaluations and strengthening programs
  • Pre-radiation evaluations to address range of motion (ROM) restrictions
  • Decreased ROM or strength 
  • Chemo induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) 
  • Gait/balance impairment 
  • Vestibular dysfunction 
  • Difficulty with self-care 
  • Cognitive impairments

Orthopedic Hand Therapy

Our specially trained occupational therapists are skilled in providing therapeutic interventions for a variety of orthopedic hand issues, including: 

  • Surgical tendon repairs
  • Elbow, hand, and wrist fractures
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Arthritis 
  • Tendonitis 
  • Upper extremity nerve injuries and repairs 
  • Conditions requiring upper extremity splinting (dynamic and static splints)

Orthopedic/Spine Physical Therapy

Our specially trained physical therapists are skilled in providing therapeutic interventions for a variety of orthopedic and spine-related diagnoses, including:

  • Chronic back or neck pain
  • Lumbar or cervical disc herniation
  • Lumbar or cervical radiculopathy
  • Lumbar or cervical degenerative joint disease

Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

Our specially trained physical therapists are skilled in providing therapeutic interventions for pelvic floor disorders, which have a variety of common causes. Symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction that our therapists are skilled in treating are:  

  • Loss of urine with lifting, laughing, sneezing, running, and/or jumping
  • Increased frequency of urination, such as urinating more than eight times a day
  • Sudden urgency to urinate, such as when you hear water
  • Need to urinate often during the night
  • Leaking urine during normal activities of daily living causing a need to wear protective liner/pad in clothing
  • Inability to void urine and bowels/constipation
  • Lower back pain
  • Pelvic pain during sexual intercourse, exercise, or other activities
  • Diastasis recti, or separation of the abdominal muscles
  • Pubic symphysis separation, which occur often after childbirth
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Loss of bowel control
