I used to think that "we are all the same" was the best way to look at people with an attitude of goodwill, and thus I would not be practicing prejudice. I've now changed that view slightly: Though we are all the same in terms of our human rights and deserving to be loved, we have many differences in culture, experiences, and values that we hold dear. These differences are not something to fear or even deny, but they are best celebrated as an opportunity for us to help one another grow. Bill

Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible. Anonymous

Thank you, Dad, for taking the time to sit me down at age 6 and explain to me that a man in a white sheet on the side of the highway has nothing to do with Halloween. I will always continue to educate in your honor. Black Lives Matter! Nan

I do not and will not ever understand what my affected co workers are going through as we all navigate these deep and dark waters. I stand with you. Period. Angela

The change I want to see must first begin with me. "Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end. (Robin Sharma) Danielle

This is a pivotal moment in time to create positive and lasting change - health equity, environmental justice, social justice for BIPOC communities. I hope to see more dialogue and I'm thankful we are having conversations throughout the health system to foster support & healing. Immense gratitude!  Gerald

A kid asks a wise man "tell me sir, in which field could I make a great career?" He says with a smile "be a good human being. There is a huge opportunity in this area and very little competition." We are never wrong to do the right thing. Sarah

In unison with verbal support, we need to see concrete changes to validate that change is in motion. This virtual wall is a first step in the right direction. Anonymous

Diversity improvement in Leadership at all levels (Team leads, Managers, Directors, VP's). Information Technology and Security leadership are not diverse. The leadership team accounts for at least 90% caucasian males. Systemic Racism occurs when non-white individuals are held back despite experience and desire to move forward. Barriers are created in annual reviews, unnecessary critiquing to hold individuals back. Anonymous

Inova values do not support Systematic Rasicm behaviors, however, it is very much so rooted in our organization at every level. The behavior presents itself in many forms and spreads throughout the organization within the shadows with biased treatments, authoritarian leadership, and passive-aggressive behaviors. A commitment is critical to identifying subtlety bias, resolving, and promoting effective change when these types of conflicts are reported to HR. I recommend Human Resource Reform. Anonymous

I am so proud to work for an organization that stands on the right side of history. Anonymous

All humans have "unconscious /implicit biases" that are deeply ingrained. Now is the time to focus on this, and recognize that we may THINK we are NOT prejudiced. In our society, we have all been exposed to lifelong biases and institutionalized racism. We need to learn how to recognize this and be provided tools/education to unlearn our failings in this area. We cannot embrace "all lives matter" until we embrace "black lives matter." Cindy

It is beautiful to see the topic addressed with "beginning conversations," but I feel we are way past that point. Too much blood has been shed, and it irks me that each time, we are contempt, just "beginning conversations." We should be taking concrete actions against the insidious laws and regulations that discriminate against black people, keeping them at the mercy of others' hatred. Resolution, in my opinion will come by dismantling a system that fails black people before they are even born. Anonymous

It makes me so sad that at this point in our history that we are not better people than we are. I initially thought well, of course, all lives matter, but as time has gone on, I know that until Black lives matter and we treat people better, we will not be that better nation I grew up hoping we would be and people will continue to be harmed in so many ways. I very much appreciate this wall and the opportunity for us all to support each other. Kathy

Life is too short to be divided along lines like racial, political, or otherwise. Intolerance is not tolerated. Anonymous

All persons are uniquely talented and of intrinsic value, let's not allow ourselves to be divided on color, gender, religion or any other one facet. Instead, let's look for ways to enjoy our interesting diversity. Sharon

I greatly appreciate working for an organization that is willing to address current issues no matter how difficult these may be... and give team members a platform for be heard and supported. Edith

Our industry requires CMEs/CEUs/etc. to continuously learn and be able to do what we signed up to do. We need to acknowledge that we also need ongoing education not only in how not to be racists but more importantly on how we can be anti-racists. Fadi

It's been a rough year for my family as we digest all that is happening in our country. We have been privileged to witness the genuineness of so many-be that through vocal and physical support for racial injustice or through the unveiling of the harsh reality of this country we share through the words and actions of others. I remain hopeful and I am thankful that others continue to take a stand to support my family and others like us. Anonymous

When I see this injustice I am reminded of the quote by Martin Niemoller penned after the end of WWII - "First they came..." We need to be reminded to stand up for others because we might be next. I stand with the BLM movement with no exceptions - protest how you see fit; I will never know how you feel. Being part of the LGBTQ community I feel I will be next. I will speak out for BLM and provide support. Anonymous

“None of us alone can save the nation or the world. But each of us can make a positive difference if we commit ourselves to do so.” —Cornel West Anonymous

I think it is important for us to acknowledge, recognize and educate ourselves and each other, the values of diversity and cultural riches of each other. FOR ALL MEN/PEOPLE ARE CREATED IN GOD'S IMAGE. Anonymous

We can all learn from each other, we all bring something different to the table. Sharing our diversities, cultures, and willingness to learn about our peers is a great way to start. We don't have to all agree; however, acknowledging the obvious disparities to me is a part of the human foundation. I am from an island where our motto is "Out of many, one people"; that concept is how I have embrace others. Take care of yourself and each other. Anonymous

I would like my Black team members to know I see you, I hear you, and I stand with you. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with all team members to devleop a culture of inclusion at Inova. Anonymous

It’s hard for me to talk about my experiences. I am glad we are opening up the doors here and allowing others to share their thoughts and just listen. Anonymous

I think it is important for all of us to educate ourselves on racism and teach others to recognize and appreciate diversity. Mary
