About Survivorship Care

We want to support your health through every phase of your cancer journey. The survivorship care team will help you transition from treatment to recovery so you can get back to enjoying your life.

This program is open to Inova cancer patients who have been treated at Inova Schar Cancer and have a referral from their Inova provider. Patients are eligible for a referral after their treatment listed below has ended.

We are currently offering this program to those who have recently been treated for the following cancers:

  • Breast cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Head and neck cancer

Services

We collaborate with your primary oncology team to offer supportive, survivorship focused care to address:

  • Fatigue, deconditioning, and weakness after treatment
  • Psychological effects of cancer and treatment
  • Sexual side effects
  • Nutrition and cancer prevention
  • Screening recommendations
  • Signs and symptoms of recurrence
  • Prevention of recurrence (where data exists)
  • Nurse navigation
  • Coordination of care for long-term needs

Patient Information

If your appointment is in-person, we will see you inside the Inova Saville Screening and Prevention Center, located in Fairfax, Virginia.

After being referred and scheduled at survivorship care, you will receive a questionnaire in MyChart prior to your visit to assess your survivorship needs.

During the initial appointment, you will have a comprehensive survivorship visit with the APP and have your concerns addressed in depth

Referrals may be made to:

  • Survivorship Clinic team members including behavioral health therapist, sex therapist, dietician, nurse navigator, and case manager
  • Other Inova clinics and resources
  • Community resources

Follow-up appointments are based upon your individual needs

Life with Cancer Support Programs

Life with Cancer provides education, mindfulness, classes as well as psychosocial support to all people impacted by cancer through evidenced-based holistic care at no cost. Life with Cancer offers hundreds of in person, virtual and hybrid (in-person or virtual) programs per month, nurse navigation, nutritional consultations, therapeutic and art counseling, mind-body/wellness programs, special workshops and expert talks, and services for patients, survivors, and their loved ones to improve their quality of life and help them cope with cancer, its treatments, and survivorship in the best way possible.

A few of the survivorship-specific programs that Life with Cancer offers include:

  • Fitness classes such as Stay Strong, Zumba, Pelvic Floor, and Cardio Drumming
  • Mind-Body Classes such as Yoga, Tai Chi, and Meditation and Guided Imagery
  • Integrative Psycho-Oncology Programs including Mind Over Matter, Mindfulness Based Cancer Recovery, Meaning Centered Psychotherapy, and Compassion Cultivation
  • Support Groups such as Breast Cancer Survivorship Group, Survivorship Group (general), Sexual Health Groups, Diagnosis Specific Groups, Art Therapy, and Young Adult Groups
  • Education Programs such as Building Resiliency, Breast Cancer Rehab Program, Journey to a Healthier You, Brain Fog, Sexual Health, and Fear of Recurrence
