Michelle VassalloMichelle Vassallo is an award-winning and accomplished nursing leader with nearly 15 years of experience and currently serves as the Vice President of Nursing for Inova’s clinical platforms service line.

In this role, Michelle is responsible for clinical quality, service and affordability metrics and overall strategic direction of laboratory and pathology services, pharmacy services, nutrition services, and diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services. She played an integral role in Inova’s fight against COVID-19, assuming the responsibility of Administrative Lead for Inova’s COVID-19 coordination center in March 2020. Since that time, Michelle has become a leading and trusted voice, both internally at Inova and in the community, as the organization continues its effort to end the pandemic.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and holds a master’s in health administration with an emphasis in executive management from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.

Prior to her current position, Michelle held the title of Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, a role she earned in 2017, 10 years after joining Inova Fairfax Medical Campus as a staff nurse in the adult emergency department and trauma center. As Associate Chief Nursing Officer, she reported directly to the chief nursing officer and matrixed reporting to all service line vice presidents to achieve quality, service, affordability and engagement goals. In 2015, she was named Senior Director of Nursing with oversight of emergency services at three sites of care, the adult observation unit, nursing operations and capacity management.

Throughout her career, Michelle has earned numerous accolades, including the Healthcare Council of the National Capital Area’s Employee of the Year award in 2016 and Washingtonian Magazine’s 50 Outstanding Nurses in 2021. She has also contributed to numerous medical publications and delivered numerous keynote presentations throughout the Washington, DC, region. A member of both the American Organization of Nurse Executives and American College of Healthcare Executives, Michelle is a certified nurse executive (NE-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and a certified emergency nurse (CEN) through the Board of Certified Emergency Nurses.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling cooking, and spending time with her two sons.
