Background Information

The study is designed to examine difference the between two standard of care antibiotic regimens with a secondary aim to determine if the different antibiotic regimens could differ by race.

Eligibility Information

  • Gestational age 22 weeks 0 days to 32 weeks 6 days.
  • Rupture of membranes confirmed by biochemical testing and/or physical exam.
  • Received antibiotics within 36 hours of diagnosis of PPROMCervical dilation 3 cm or less and 4 or fewer contractions in the 60-minute at the time of admission.
  • Age 18 and <50 years.

Ineligibility Information

  • Non-reassuring fetal heart tracing, vaginal bleeding, chorioamnionitis or any indication for delivery at admission.
  • Allergy to penicillin, erythromycin, or azithromycin.
  • Multiple gestations.
