Background Information

Atrial fibrillation is a condition where the upper chambers of the heart (atria) have abnormal electrical signals, which can disrupt blood flow and heart function. Atrial fibrillation in patients less than 35 years of age is rare and known as early-onset atrial fibrillation. Initial data indicate specific genetic anomalies in patients with early-onset atrial fibrillation. In this study we perform genetic assessment of children with early onset atrial fibrillation to better characterize the presentation and outcomes of this disorder.
