A diagnosis of advanced heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure or CHF, indicates heart disease that has progressed to a point where traditional therapies and symptom management are no longer working.

Inova Schar Heart and Vascular offers a program at its Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and through its multi-specialty cardiovascular centers in Alexandria, Ashburn, Fairfax, Loudoun, Mount Vernon, Oakville and Woodbridge dedicated to managing the needs of these patients. This team consists of cardiologists who are board certified in both advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.

Most often patients seen by the specialists at the Advanced Heart Failure Program are referred by their cardiologist or primary care physician for these services.
