Dr. Michael Lempel is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist at Inova. He specializes in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery using robotic and laparoscopic techniques. And has extensive experience in the management of fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain and endometriosis.

Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Lempel served as an obstetrician and gynecologist in a private practice where he helped train physicians in the use of minimally invasive surgical approaches for the management of common gynecologic conditions. While practicing full-time, he also trained nurse practitioners in women's health.

Dr. Lempel is an assistant professor of medical education at the University of Virginia. He previously served as the operations director for quality of the obstetrics and gynecology department at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and the chairperson of the obstetrics and gynecology department’s peer review committee.  

Dr. Lempel became interested in obstetrics and gynecology because it allowed him to get to know his patients throughout the different stages of their lives and to develop treatment plans tailored to their individualized needs. His goals are to utilize the latest advances in medicine and surgery to treat his patients with as little medication as possible and to use minimally invasive surgical approaches to cure disease and restore health. He believes that proper nutrition and stress reduction are key to preventing disease and reversing many symptoms.

A native of Queens, NY, Dr. Lempel currently resides in Northern Virginia with his wife, son and daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys home renovation, playing the drums, skiing and biking.
