Ana Barac, MD, PhD, FACC, FAHA
Dr. Ana Barac is the Inova Schar Cancer and Inova Schar Heart and Vascular's D'Aniello Chair, Cardio-Oncology. Dr. Barac also serves as the Medical Director of the Cardio-Oncology Program. This leadership position represents a substantial enhancement to Inova's Cardio-Oncology Program, made possible through the generous support of Dan and Gayle D'Aniello. The program will build comprehensive cardiovascular care for patients across the cancer treatment continuum, from diagnosis through survivorship.
Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Barac was the Director of Medstar Heart and Vascular Institute's Cardio-Oncology Program. She is a Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University, was the founding Chair of the American College of Cardiology's (ACC) Cardio-Oncology Council and serves as Co-Director of the ACC's Annual Live Course on Advancing Cardiovascular Care in Oncology Patients. She has chaired Heart House Roundtables at ACC's headquarters on cardiovascular disease and cancer treatment and has been a member of writing committees for multidisciplinary professional society guidelines and consensus documents addressing cardiovascular concerns in patients with cancer. Dr. Barac serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), is a senior advisor for JACC: Cardio-Oncology and is an editorial consultant for JACC: Heart Failure.
Dr. Barac's clinical and research areas of interest focus on advanced cardiovascular imaging, the applications of cardiac magnetic resonance and echocardiography in investigations of cardiovascular effects of cancer therapies.
