About Andrew Z. Mo, MD

Dr. Andrew Mo is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in the comprehensive care of degenerative, deformity-related, and complex spinal conditions. His clinical expertise includes minimally invasive and revision spine surgery, spinal trauma, and the management of cervical and thoracolumbar pathology. Dr. Mo is known for delivering thoughtful, individualized care that prioritizes patient safety, functional recovery, and long-term outcomes.

Dr. Mo completed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, graduating with honors. He earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at the University of Miami, with additional specialized training in orthopedic traumatology at the Shock Trauma Center, orthopedic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and pediatric orthopedic surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Mo is certified in advanced microsurgery through Columbia University.

Prior to joining Inova Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Dr. Mo served as an attending spine surgeon at MedStar Orthopaedic Institute and as an assistant professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he helped establish and grow a community-based spine practice while providing coverage for a Level I trauma center. His clinical experience includes the management of complex spinal trauma, infections, oncologic conditions, and general orthopedic trauma.

Dr. Mo believes the patient is the most important person throughout the care process and works with each patient to develop a treatment plan that helps them reach their desired goals.

Dr. Mo has a strong academic and research background, with extensive scholarly contributions focused on spinal trauma classification, pediatric and adult spine pathology, degenerative conditions, and surgical outcomes. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and invited review articles, and has presented widely at national and international spine and orthopedic meetings. He has also served as a guest editor for Seminars in Spine and remains actively involved in professional societies and system-wide quality initiatives.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Mo enjoys digital and film photography, tennis, traveling, and exploring fine whiskey.
