About Anirudh Rao, MD

Dr. Anirudh Rao is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and pediatrics. He joined Inova in 2025 and has been practicing since 2014.

Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Rao served as an attending physician at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC.

Dr. Rao’s clinical areas of interest include symptom management and advanced care planning for patients with advanced heart and lung diseases. He enjoys working with a diverse range of patients across the age spectrum. Dr. Rao believes in being present with patients, listening to their concerns, understanding their values and priorities and supporting them throughout their journey of treatment for serious illnesses. His goal is to treat all patients with dignity and care.

Dr. Rao has three young children, whom he considers the light of his life, and enjoys swimming, playing sports and traveling with family in his free time.
