About Cherie Marfori, MD

Cherie Q. Marfori, MD, FACOG, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified gynecological surgeon who specializes in benign reproductive surgery utilizing minimally invasive techniques. She was recruited to Inova Health System as the Section Chief of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in 2021 after serving as the Medical and Fellowship Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic surgery at George Washington University, where she practiced for 15 years and continues to be an Adjunct Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Marfori enjoys taking care of patients with problems across the gynecologic spectrum and specializes in restorative surgery for fibroids, endometriosis, Asherman’s syndrome, infertility, Muellerian anomalies, gender dysphoria and uterine prolapse. One asset she brings to Inova is the ability to offer diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy in the office setting, allowing patients the ease and convenience of a procedure in comfortable surroundings, with no downtime afterward. 

In the operating room, Dr. Marfori is recognized as an expert in complex laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures. Additionally, she is credentialed in robotic gynecologic surgery and has been a pioneer in developing innovative ways to perform procedures in the safest, least invasive manner possible, including single-site, two-port, and vNOTES hysterectomies, providing patients with improved outcomes and shorter recoveries.

Dr. Marfori was designated a Surgeon of Excellence in 2013 by the Surgical Review Corporation and was the Director of George Washington’s Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. She was part of a distinguished inaugural class to earn the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s focused practice designation in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery in 2021. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and is passionate about teaching the next generation of gyn surgeons. She has presented her clinical and educational research at national venues with the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology (APGO), and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons.   

Dr. Marfori is widely loved for her ability to provide personalized care, taking the time to ensure every patient understands all the options, both surgical and medical. She takes great joy in forming trusting partnerships with her patients.
