About Eric Sklar, MD
Dr. Eric Sklar is a board-certified neurologist with more than 16 years of experience treating patients. He also holds board certifications in sleep medicine, clinical neurophysiology, and vascular neurology. His practice focuses on sleep medicine, though he has treated patients with a wide variety of neurological disorders. He serves as Medical Director of Inova Sleep Disorders Program at the Inova Neuroscience and Spine Institute, in addition to serving as Co-Director of the Inova Neurodiagnostic and Sleep Assessment Center near the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.
Before joining Inova in 2011, Dr. Sklar practiced locally with the Alexandria Fairfax Neurology practice for 8 years. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan where he graduated with a degree in biopsychology. He then went on to medical school at Temple University School of Medicine, followed by a medical internship in the University of Maryland Medical System. Dr. Sklar completed his neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. During his fellowship, he gained additional experience and education in sleep, epilepsy and neuromuscular disorders.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sklar has been involved in teaching medical students and residents. While at Emory University, he was an instructor for a small group neurobiology course for medical students and lectured on seizures and epilepsy. Since starting practice in Northern Virginia, he served as the inaugural Clerkship Director for the Inova-VCU School of Medicine Neurology Clerkship and has lectured students and residents on various neurologic topics.
Dr. Sklar has been recognized as a top doctor in the area throughout his career, previously receiving "Top Doctor" honors in Washingtonian magazine, Northern Virginia magazine, and Washington Consumers' Checkbook.
Dr. Sklar is a native of Montgomery County, MD, where he currently resides with his wife and three sons.
